Nixon expert to speak at HPLM

FREMONT — What was once considered the one of the most secretive presidential administrations in U.S. history is now becoming one of the most transparent thanks to Richard Nixon's secret Oval Office recordings, which ultimately implicated him in the Watergate scandal and led to his resignation.Luke Nichter, associate professor of history at Texas A&M University and an expert on Nixon's Oval Office tapes, will give the annual Lecture on the Presidency at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 8 in the museum auditorium at the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library & Museums. The lecture is titled "A decade with the Nixon tapes: What we have learned and what we have yet to learn."Wine and light hors d'oeuvres will be available at the beginning of the event, and a reception with wine and hors d'oeuvres will follow at 2:30 p.m. Prior to the lecture, a wreath-laying ceremony will take place at 1 p.m at President Rutherford B. Hayes' tomb in honor of his Oct. 4 birthday.Tickets for the lecture are $25 per person. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 419-332-2081 ext. 238. The wreath-laying ceremony is free and open to the public.
