No outdoor pool for you

Sorry Sandusky, no Recreation Center pool for you. But why? According to Sandusky's online Recreation Center Survey, an outdoor pool was the number two recreational amenity desired by survey participants. City decision makers are quick to point out Sandusky taxpayers kicked in $500,000 for the new pool at Sandusky High School. The only resemblance between an indoor pool at the high school and an outdoor pool at the Recreation Center is water. The high school pool has very limited "open swim" hours access. Outdoor pool liability, lack of funds are all excuses, not reasons, to ignore the wishes of Sandusky residents. How do other nearby smaller communities find a way to fund and not worry about liability? $14 million in amusement admissions taxes is earmarked for the Recreation Center construction. The construction bid approved by city commission was $10 million, leaving a $4 million open use balance. Recreation Center site plans show an area reserved for expansion.
