Couple pleads guilty to stealing from elderly man

NORWALK — A couple from Greenwich who are accused of stealing thousands of dollars from a senior living in their home pleaded guilty on Tuesday. Clyde R. Robertson Sr., 65, and his wife, Christy L. Robertson, 64, who have addresses in both Greenwich and Crestline, Ohio, pleaded guilty to one amended count of theft from a person in a protected class, a fourth-degree felony. They both pleaded guilty to a single charge in exchange for the dismissal of multiple felony charges, including identity fraud and forgery. Both are scheduled for sentencing at 9 a.m. on May 12. Status of other cases Two additional family members, including the couple's son, Clyde R. Robertson Jr., 37, and his wife, Nicole M. Robertson, 38, both of Butler, Ohio, in Richland County, were also indicted in connection with this case. On July 28, Robertson Jr., 37, pleaded guilty to one count of theft from a person in a protected class, a fifth-degree felony. Robertson Jr. pleaded guilty to the one count on the same day in exchange for one additional count of the same charge to be dismissed. Huron County Common Pleas Court Judge James Conway sentenced Robertson Jr. to serve about three months in the Huron County Jail and three years of probation, according to court records. Under the terms of his sentencing, Robertson Jr. is required to pay $300 in restitution to the victim, according to court records. Nicole Robertson was first indicted by a Huron County grand jury in May 2025 on two counts of theft from a person in a protected class and one count of forgery, all of which are fifth-degree felonies. As of late Thursday, she remains out of the Huron County Jail and has an upcoming court hearing scheduled for 9 a.m. on June 23. Background The allegations stem from a May 2024 complaint to Greenwich police that the suspects were taking advantage of a man living in their home. The complainants said the victim moved in with the Robertsons because he did not want to live alone after undergoing a surgical procedure the previous year. The victim's credit card was used without his permission, and his bank account was also allegedly accessed by the suspects, according to a Greenwich police report. In total, financial records obtained by police showed that about $18,500 in allegedly unauthorized transactions were made from the victim's bank and credit accounts, the report states. Another $11,000 in charges were made from an Apple Pay account that was linked to the victim's Discover Card.
