Your deadline being my birthday seemed symbolic for my applying to be considered for this next FIT Challenge. A recent comment made about me, "She carries her weight well," perplexed me so much that I had to consider the notion of how well do I carry my weight. The truth is, I'm obese and I can no longer revel in the thought that I'm good with my weight.Historically, my body and my spirit have been embroiled in a 'bitter-better body battle' – without long lasting victories. Thus, I continue to struggle with being more than 100 pounds overweight. I have contemplated weight loss surgery, but I did not acquire my weight through any medical procedure; therefore, I feel compelled to lose my weight the natural way.Previously, I lost 90 pounds by changing my eating habits, exercising, and living a more conscientious lifestyle: that was before I had my two children – now adults. I remember resigning to return to my old exercise spot, Curves on Perkins Avenue, only to discover that it had become a Subway: even God has a sense of humor.My motivation to take this challenge now, is the responsibility that I have caring for my elderly mother and her sisters, in their daily living. While my husband does not openly complain about my weight, I realize it is an issue for me.I have gleaned the stories of your past challengers and have respected their honesty and efforts going forward, including two of my former students and a classmate. I have allowed my family to enable me in this area of my life long enough. I love me well enough to know that this FIT Challenge is one that I need to take for the well-being of my family; but more so, for my personal well-being.
