Office thanks, commends dispatchers

PERKINS TWP. — Sunday marked the start of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. Spanning April 12-18, "It's an annual recognition of the hard work and dedication of public safety dispatchers nationwide," according to the Erie County Sheriff's Office. Local officials then thanked and commended "the hard work put in each and every day by our dispatchers at the sheriff's office," the statement read. "They dispatch for 19 public safety agencies throughout Erie County, and, as an example of their efforts, they collectively answered 122,000 phone calls in 2025 with over 37,000 of those being emergency 911 calls," the statement continued. "We thank them for their daily devotion to our community members in need as they provide a steady and calming voice for those who are experiencing a crisis or who need to report an emergency in progress." The sheriff's office also thanked other area dispatchers with public safety agencies in Erie County, including those employed by Vermilion police, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, North Central EMS and Cedar Point. "Thank you, dispatchers," the post read. "You are extremely appreciated."
