George H. Bretz

George H. Bretz, 89, residing in Huron, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2016, in Firelands Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness.George was born April 1, 1927, in Sandusky to the late George and Ruth (Link) Bretz.George graduated from Sandusky High School in 1945. He was a veteran of the United States Navy who proudly served his country in the Phillipines during World War II. George provided 45 years of service with Hinde & Dauch Paper Company, Westvaco & Displayco Paper Company, where he retired in 1989.George was a member of Emmanuel Church of Christ in Sandusky, the Sandusky VFW Post No. 2945, American Legion Post No. 83, AMVETS Post No. 17, Tug Boat Association and SUBIC BAY.George is survived by his wife, Joyce (Gardner) Bretz; daughters, Pamela (Tim) Hall of Huron and Patricia Sandles of Port Charlotte, Fla.; son, Richard Bretz of Jacksonville, Fla.; four grandchildren, Stephanie (Brian) Pathko, Nicholas Sandles, Meredith Bretz and DeShea Sandles; two great-grandchildren, Kegan and Connor Pathko; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Bretz; brothers, Robert Bretz and William Bretz; half sister, Wilma; and half brother, Rolland.Friends may call from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, April 17, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Friends may also call from 10 a.m. Monday, April 18, until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Wayne Brockway presiding.
