BOECKLING CHARITABLE TRUST • The George A. and Elizabeth Boeckling Charitable Trust is offering grant dollars for nonprofits looking to support programs to help children, adults and children in the greater Sandusky community. Grant requests can be made up to $10,000. Those applying must send in six copies of both an application and a letter of interest. The interest letter should give background, purpose, goals, community impact and financial amount. Winners from June 12, 2025, must complete a final grant report, including all receipts attached. The report must be sent to The George A. and Elizabeth Boeckling Charitable Trust by April 30 to be eligible for the June 3 grant approval. The deadline for 2026 grant proposals/applications must be sent by May 4. BELLEVUE • Bellevue Schools' Ellen Blum won the Bellevue Lions Club's Education Award. She has served the high school for 29 years as a math teacher and was recognized as someone who embodies dedication and service. • Dianne Meyer will retire from Bellevue Schools after 30 dedicated years of service. She worked as a cashier at the elementary school and a bus driver. • Students in Madyson Morris's kindergarten class shared a heartfelt surprise for Shannon Bramel and Pamela Veletean in celebration of National Assistant Principals Week, April 6-10. With smiles and excitement, students presented a bouquet of gratitude to show just how much they appreciate all the care, support and leadership these assistant principals provide everyday. ST. PAUL HIGH SCHOOL • St. Paul High School's horticulture class visited Green Circle Growers in Oberlin. The students learned about the state-of-the-art growing facility. VERMILION • Vermilion Schools congratulated Timothy Andres for achieving his Eagle Scout rank, the highest Scouting rank. He earned the rank through Scouting America with Vermilion Troop 447 under scoutmaster Larry Howell. He is the 68th Eagle Scout from the troop. PORT CLINTON • Port Clinton's middle school orchestra earned superior ratings at the Ohio Music Education Association's Solo and Ensemble contest. Participating students include: Storee Bennett, Natalie Gerber, Jaclyn Gressman, Hailey Goff, Mason Marvicsin, Kenleigh Mazur, April Osborne and Penelope Sandvick. The students are under the direction of Adam Murray. The district has been named Best Communities for Music Education by the NAMM Foundation every year since 2019. • Bataan Memorial Elementary will host a Bike and Roll to School Day for primary and intermediate school families on May 6. There will be four starting locations. Participants will meet at Clinton and Alice to bike north on Clinton. The four 8 a.m. starting locations are West End Community Park; Corner of Fifth and Madison Street-4th Street Block; and Taft Hill/Park. Students are encouraged to join the "bike bus" as it passes their homes. Those who use training wheels should start at the Taft Hill location. The event will be canceled in the case of inclement weather or school cancellation. The district encourages community members to cheer for the students and volunteers on the route. Those who are interested in volunteering, applications and BCI checks are available at the board office for $10. Lisa Schlumbohm, a volunteer, will help with the event organization. The district also thanked The Ohio State University Extension Office and the Ottawa County Health Department will also volunteer. • Members of Port Clinton High School Leadership Council were recognized as Ohio Association of Student Leaders All-Ohio Outstanding Student Leaders. High school principal Gary Steyer was also recognized as Administrator of the Year. Three seniors, Halle Puffenberger, Kai Weit and Morgan Wiechman, were All-Ohio Outstanding Student Leaders. The students were recognized for their service and leadership at school and in their community. The Ohio Association of Student Leaders Administrator of the Year Award recognizes those, like Steyer, who provide support and time to school councils and student leaders. Nichole Wiechman is the Port Clinton High School Leadership Council advisor. She was honored last year as OASL Advisor of the Year.
