PREP ROUNDUP: SMCC posts 17 runs, wins 3rd straight

SANDUSKY — St. Mary Central Catholic won its third straight baseball game, running past Old Fort 17-10 in Sandusky Bay Conference River Division action Friday at Dorn Park. The Panthers built an 11-1 lead on a flurry of Old Fort wild pitches before the Stockaders challenged late. Old Fort (1-5, 0-3 SBC River) scored seven times in the fourth to get within two runs before the Panthers broke it open with two in the fourth and four in the final frame of the six-inning game called due to darkness. Blake Finneran, Cayden Wikel and Grant Swain each had two hits for SMCC, which improved to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the River. Wikel and Swain each scored three runs. Winning pitcher Leo Will went three innings, giving up just one hit and striking out three. At the plate, Will drove in two runs and scored twice. The two pitching staffs combined to walk 28 batters in the moist weather. The Panthers, who are in the midst of playing eight games in 10 days, travel to Sandusky for a non-conference game Saturday.
