Police: Woman trashed apartment

SANDUSKY — A Sandusky woman is facing felony charges after she allegedly trashed her rental unit and stole an appliance. Sydney J. Starcher, 31, no address listed, is facing one count of vandalism, a fifth-degree felony, and one count of first-degree misdemeanor theft. In addition to those charges, she is also facing a felony count of identity theft for allegedly providing a false name during a traffic stop. Just after 11 a.m. on April 4, officers were called to the 1200 block of Johnson St. for the report of a damaged apartment after the renter moved out. The landlord allowed officers into the rental who then observed extensive damage, according to a Sandusky police report: • There were holes in the wall, "as if someone was punching the wall or kicking the wall," the report states. • A set of cabinets had broken glass, and the glass was missing from the oven. The floors were ripped up in two rooms and the bathtub was cracked in the middle. • The landlord then led the officer to where the washer and dryer are hooked up. The washer, a General Electric model, was still hooked up, but the dryer was missing. The landlord told the officer that Starcher sold the dryer even though she was not entitled to do so. The landlord told officers that they were desirous of charges, which were signed by the landlord and turned into arrest warrants. Just before 7 p.m. on Tuesday, a Sandusky police officer was on patrol and noticed a vehicle being driven by Starcher. The officer was aware of the warrants Starcher had, according to a Sandusky police report. After observing a turn-signal violation, the officer initiated a traffic stop as Starcher pulled into the driveway of a home in the 600 block of Camp St. When asked to identify herself, Starcher allegedly provided a family member's name, date of birth and Social Security number. After confirming the woman really was Starcher, she was arrested on the warrants. Due to using a false identity in order to evade arrest, she was also charged with taking the identity of another, the report states. Additionally, she received a charge of driving under suspension. She was taken to Erie County Jail. She has since been released. Starcher has a preliminary hearing scheduled for 11 a.m. on April 15 in Sandusky Municipal Court.
