Where do big Ohio deer go during gun season? | Sandusky Register Someone did a study once upon a time showing that most truly big bucks are taken during the first 2-3 hours of the gun season. And the reason is simple. They've been unhunted all winter, spring and summer, and most of the fall, so opening day catches them out and about, following their normal behavior patterns. But once the shotguns start booming, they beeline to areas know to be safe. And stay there until the shooting stops. Any old mosshorns taken after opening morning succumb to bad luck or to extremely savvy hunters who don't mind extra effort.
