Free concert this Sun. in Sandusky

SANDUSKY — A free concert of music from the Astralis Chamber Ensemble is being provided at 3 p.m. on Sunday. This musical opportunity is provided by the First Presbyterian Church of Sandusky, 265 Jackson St. Astralis will be presenting three musical pieces during the worship service at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Everyone is invited. The concert at 3 p.m. is free. A freewill offering will be accepted. The ensemble is an innovative group that is performing with much acclaim across the country. These award-winning musicians represent decades of experience performing at many of the world's major venues. The trio consists of harp, flute and viola playing dynamic music from classical to contemporary. The trios program — "Meditations" — is presented by Angela Massey, Jason Sheng-Chieh Lan, and Karen Tay: • Angela Massey has performed across the U.S. as well as in England, Germany, Italy, Romania and Switzerland. As a soloist, she has been a featured guest artist with many orchestras in New York City, Tallahassee, Raleigh and at the National Flute Association. She presents more than 60 recitals each year as a soloist and as the flutist and director of the Astralis Chamber Ensemble. She is the flute instructor at Florida Gulf Coast University and has been awarded multiple prizes in the U.S. and internationally. She received degrees in flute performance from Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and the University of North Carolina. • Sheng-Chieh Lan is a versatile violist with a dynamic artistic voice and extensive international performance experience. He is the youngest violist to present a debut recital at Taiwan's National Concert Hall to a sold-out audience. He began studying the viola at age 9. A Juilliard alumnus, he is currently pursuing a doctorate of musical arts degree at the University of Texas at Austin • Karen Tay enjoys a multifaceted career as a soloist, orchestral player, chamber musician and educator. Currently, she is a candidate in the doctorate of musical arts program at the Manhattan School of Music where she serves as a doctoral fellow, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses. She is a teaching assistant at Columbia University and is a theory and aural skills faculty member at the Manhattan School of Music Precollege.
