Easterseals to host 29th annual auction

PERKINS TWP. — Easterseals hopes its annual auction will provide the funds needed to help children and adults living with disabilities.Elyria businessman Edger Allen founded Easterseals in 1919 to provide services to people living with disabilities. The organization has grown, but its mission remains the same 101 years later.The local Easterseals chapter will host its 29th annual auction at the Sandusky Mall — sponsored by the Register and the radio station WLEC — this weekend to help fund that mission."We are so appreciative to have an event that has been going strong for 29 years," said Patti Powers, the organization's development specialist. "We couldn't have this auction without our sponsors, donors and the support of the community."The event raises about $30,000 each year to help pay for Easterseals' programs, which include home care for senior citizens, loaning out wheelchairs, children's camp and more."All the money we raise at this event goes to support the local programs that benefit people every day," Powers said.The auction is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday with five new items up for auction every 15 minutes.
