Gallery shaping up for season's final showing

SANDUSKY — A new art show should measure up to lofty expectations. "Shorelines of Geometry" represents the Sandusky Cultural Center's fifth and final art show in its 2025-26 season. The display of artwork collectively premieres Sunday with a public reception set for 1-4 p.m. So what can attendees expect? "This exhibit features 12 Ohio artists working in a variety of media, including blown glass, ceramics, origami, drawing in colored pencils, graphite, ink, and oil, acrylic and encaustic paint," center director Charles Mayer said. Here's a look at each participating artist with the center explaining all artwork on display. Some artists, meanwhile, also provide comments about their submissions: • "Taha Benadada believes that painting is a language, a way to visually communicate feelings, emotions and thoughts. His strong contrasts between light and dark in his compositions is a way to tell a story and evoke the line between opposites. 'My canvases are the pages of my diary.'" • "Donna Coleman said, 'Geometry is the sacred structure of creation, and our world is made of geometric proportions: from the unfurling of the Milky Way to our inner ear drums. Everything is in geometrical relation to everything. Discordance in those geometric relationships would be catastrophic.'" • "Paul Coleman shows a group of oil on canvas paintings of Shade Mountain, a granite tor, south of Red Hill in Snyder County, upon which he climbed as a child." • "Caleb Hitchcock said, 'My paintings capture some of my favorite views around Sandusky. I painted with a limited color palette for the simplicity and joy of it.'" • "Benjamin Johnson returns to Sandusky Cultural Center with a group of complex blown and cold-worked glass vessels, demonstrating his remarkable control of geometric form in this fluid medium." • "Randy Maxin abstracts color, sound, pattern and texture from memories he associates with his subject and renders images in cut wallpaper, Japanese origami papers and acrylics on canvas or panels." • "James Ward Peake, a creative origami artist, presents a series of folded paper objects inspired by remnants of life found on local shorelines." • "Dylan Rundle imagines in his delicate, colored pencil drawings, moments that may exist if we remain hopeful amidst horror. 'The future is listening: If we're loud enough, we might be able to construct the stone narrative.'" • "Marcus Schafer shows a new series of colorful geometric, layered compositions cut from his signature eucalyptus board." • "Chuck Strasshofer III is a functional ceramic artist from the Cleveland area exhibiting for the first time in Sandusky. His work juxtaposes rigid, geometric forms and poured glazes to create surfaces rich in color and texture." • "Aneta Wlodyka shows further developments in her ongoing series of shaped canvas geometric forms, introducing new colors and arrangements." • "Jeff Yost said, 'Shorelines are spaces where the nature of subtle persistence lives where there's only rhythmic integration and disintegration. It's a space where measurement, imposition and authority become abandonments of spent and wishful human thinking.'" Beyond Sunday, the exhibit welcomes people to view artwork through May 17 during the following times and days: • 1-4 p.m. on Sundays • Noon to 3 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays "Admission is free at all times and parking is available at the rear of Sandusky High School, 2130 Hayes Ave. (Ohio 4), in Sandusky," the statement read.
