America 250 history events happening locally

SANDUSKY — The celebration of the 250th birthday of the U.S. continues with many history-focused events scheduled in the area. Here is a list of available local events, organized by date. The theme for this month's America 250 events in Ohio is transportation but included here are other local history events, too. All events are free unless otherwise noted: • 9 a.m. on Saturday: Maritime Museum of Sandusky, 125 Meigs St, Sandusky — a program on mail delivery to ships on the Great Lakes and the country's only floating post office. Free for museum members, included with museum admission for everyone else. • 7 p.m. on April 15: Firelands Historical Society complex, 9 Case Ave., Norwalk — For the presentation of The Battle of Lake Erie, Robert Whitman, from Perry's Victory & International Peace Memorial, will discuss Commodore Perry's decisive victory over the British during the War of 1812. • 10 a.m. on April 18: Cherry City Honey Farms and Apiary, 1000 County Road 312, Bellevue — Sourdough 101 workshop on baking sourdough bread; The cost is $19.99. Adams St. —Linking Land to Lake: The Impact of The Milan Canal; Bring a sack lunch and hear how a small town in Erie County was linked to world commerce. • 5:30 p.m. on April 28: Shores & Islands Ohio Welcome Center East, 125 E. Water St., Sandusky — Brian George, of the North Coast Narrative, talks about the electric interurban railway that connected Cleveland, Toledo, Lorain, Sandusky, Norwalk and Fremont.
