Man indicted for attempted murder

SANDUSKY — A Sandusky man was indicted as a result of a March shooting. Levonne Buckley, 19, of the 1200 block of Vine St., is facing two counts of first-degree felony attempted murder, two second-degree felony counts of felonious assault and one second-degree felony count of improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation or a school safety zone. Just before 2 a.m. on March 26, officers were called to the area of the 2200 block of Forest Drive for the report of shots fired. Officers arrived on scene but were not able to find any evidence of a shooting, according to Sandusky police Chief Jared Oliver. They did speak with witnesses who also heard the shots. Detectives followed up later that morning and discovered a home in the 1500 block of S. Forest Drive that was struck five times by gunfire. Officers learned that a man and woman were inside the home at the time of the shooting. The woman said one bullet entered the home, struck the front pocket of her hooded sweatshirt and then continued into a wall without striking her, Oliver said. Detectives developed information that led to Buckley as a suspect. He and the female victim knew each other, Oliver said. At about 12:15 p.m. on March 26, officers observed Buckley as a passenger in a vehicle near the intersection of Wamajo Drive and Susan Lane. They initiated a traffic stop and took Buckley into custody, according to Oliver. Police then obtained and executed a search warrant of Buckley's home on Vine Street and recovered a 9 mm handgun that they believe was used in the shooting. As of late Monday, Buckley is held in Erie County Jail under a $150,000 bond. He has a court appearance scheduled for 9 a.m. on April 29, according to jail records.
