Bailey Legal Group hires new attorney

SANDUSKY — The Bailey Legal Group's newest attorney is renowned for his expertise in criminal jury trials.The law firm, on West Market Street, hired Chris Maher, who's bringing 28 years of experience to the firm's criminal defense trial team.Maher is a graduate of Miami University in Oxford and the Capital University Law School in Columbus. He started his career as a lawyer at the Legal Aid Society of Columbus.In 1996, he started work at the Cuyahoga County Public Defender Office, where he gained a reputation as a tenacious trial attorney.He's been behind key cases, including winning the first case in the county that required the prosecution to provide discovery when trying to charge a child as an adult.Maher has tried more than 100 criminal cases for range of charges, including murder, sexual assault charges and drug charges. He's not lost a case in years and has obtained not guilty verdicts in his past seven jury trials.He spent the majority of his career in the Felony Trial Division, where he mentored newer attorneys and served as lead counsel on cases with the highest stakes.Maher has also spoken at Continuing Legal Education courses for fellow lawyers and given lectures at the Cleveland Marshal College of Law.
