Family-owned company sells for $1.9 million

HURON TWP. — After nearly a century of family ownership, a local construction business was purchased for more than $1.9 million by a Connecticut-based company.That's according to the Erie County auditor's website, which shows Cantelli Block & Brick — a manufacturer of blocks and brick used in construction projects — was purchased by a Sawmill Parkway LLC, last week.Representatives from Cantelli couldn't be reached for comment, but a source told the Register the company's owners wanted to retire from the business. The tax mailing address for the purchaser on the auditor's website is the same as the address for the headquarters of United Concrete Products, Inc., in Yalesville, Connecticut.The incorporator, Jonathan Gavin, on the Ohio Secretary of States's business filing for Sawmill Parkway, also has the same name as United Concrete Products' owner.Gavin couldn't be reached to confirm if his company purchased Cantelli, which until now has been under the ownership of the same family since 1923.Italian immigrant Quinto Cantelli founded the company in Sandusky from the home workshop he built on Milan Road.Two of his children, Raymond and Anita, worked by his side at the company for years.
