With campaign, Meinzer seeks to continue Sandusky's momentum

SANDUSKY — Mike Meinzer explained his burning desire about why he's campaigning for a Sandusky city commission seat this fall."I'm running as a supporter," said Meinzer, the city's former fire chief who retired in 2011. "The progress and the planning and the renaissance that's going on right now, I'm really excited about that."Meinzer's bid centers on ensuring the city's momentum — marked by tens of millions of dollars recently invested in city-based education centers, government buildings along with businesses and residential properties — continues."I decided I didn't want to see anything that (the city) has accomplished get derailed," he said. "I want to come on board for support."Meinzer made the comments during a recent appearance on "Between the Lines," the Register's public affairs program. The interview is available for demand viewing on the Register's YouTube channel and its website, sanduskyregister.com/btl.During the program, Meinzer briefly touched on the many aspects he backs, which include:• Protecting residents by pushing forward legislation related to code enforcement, blight elimination and landlord-tenant registration guidelines• Incentivizing homeownership, especially for first-time property owners• Developing neighborhoods by efficiently spending resources to improve residents' quality of life• Promoting economic development• Working with schools and other area education centers to ensure students can fill skilled trade jobs• Fixing roads• Implementing suggestions outlined in the city's $134 million capital improvement plan"I want to keep the growth and keep the progress going," Meinzer said. "This (plan) has a real common sense approach to growth."Prior to Election Day, Nov. 5, Meinzer encourages locals to approach him and discuss these items.
