Now & Then building purchased

SANDUSKY — The building that once housed the Now & Then Shoppe was purchased for $154,000 last month by Mac Building & Development Llc.The long-time antique shop on West Market Street near Jackson Street closed at the end of August. The new owners purchased the building on Sept. 9.Mac Building & Development is comprised of business partners Conor Whelan, Tony Limberios and Matt Weltle."We are quite committed to the commercial use on the first floor," Whelan said. "And we will be turning the second and third floors into condos/apartments."Whelan said they will go more in-depth into their plans for the historic building at a later date.The building was constructed between 1884 and 1886 by Jacob Hemminger as a saloon with rentable rooms on the upper floors, according to the Ohio Historic Places Dictionary.It was included in the National Register of Historic Places in 1982 as Hemminger Saloon for its architectural significance as an example of the High Victorian style.Reach reporter Michael Harrington at michaelharrington@sanduskyregister.com, follow the Register at Facebook.com/SanduskyRegisterThe former Now & Then Shop building was purchased in September.
