Here's the scoop on The Cherry on Top

MONROEVILLE — Danielle Glovinsky always desires to please people, going the extra mile and adding something special to make experiences with others more memorable. So she's incorporating this very mindset with her catchphrase featuring a personal favorite fruit — perfect for the ice cream business she recently started. Glovinsky debuted The Cherry on Top, at 6812 Ohio 113 at the Ohio 99 intersection, in the Monroeville area. This site has housed several different ice cream businesses in the past. So why cherries? "That's my trademark, and I've used that quote, 'The Cherry on Top,' many times, for good or bad, so I finally have a legitimate reason to use it," said Glovinsky, a mother of four who's never owned a business before yet noted this fulfills a lifelong dream. Delving deep into her passion Glovinsky, who's also an emergency room nurse, underscored her two main reasons for owning a business: • Circling back to her childhood: "I've always wanted to own a candy store or sweet shop. I'm always making desserts at home. I started in 4-H when I was young, and I've always baked and cooked and grown up in the kitchen. But I've always geared toward the sweet side of things. My friends joke that I put myself through nursing school on Mountain Dew, Reese's cups and Oreos." • Teaching her children life lessons: "I have multiple teenagers, and they are entering the workforce. My oldest daughter had a not-so-great experience working, so giving kids an opportunity to work and knowing they're in a safe, fun environment, teaching them proper people skills and how to handle money is important." Glovinsky's two middle children, Dana Preston and Ian Preston, work at the shop. "I understand kids have busy schedules," Glovinsky said. "Here I can give them the flexibility to work so they can earn a little extra money." Glovinsky desires for The Cherry on Top to serve as a place more than just simply stopping by, grabbing food and immediately leaving. "This is more of a destination," said Glovinsky, pointing to a neighboring big green space where she'll offer yard games and a playground for children to have fun. Additionally, she can provide a large tent so people can convene for special occasions, like birthdays or baby/bridal showers. What's on the menu? The Cherry on Top's menu consists of many food and dessert options, including: • Sundaes, such as varieties of hot fudge, turtle and strawberry shortcake • Flurries, like ones filled with popular candy and chocolates, including Oreos, Reese's cups along with Heath and Butterfinger bars • Milkshakes, featuring flavors of vanilla, chocolate and strawberry Glovinsky, who also makes homemade ice cream cakes, added that she only uses Toft Dairy products in the desserts. "I try to use as many local things as I can," said Glovinsky, noting this is the case with all food she serves. "It's important to support local." The Cherry on Top also offers housemade Sloppy Joes, shredded chicken, coney dogs, burgers and many fried foods, like onion rings. Glovinsky, a 2004 Norwalk High School graduate, also continues to whip up special items, which should pop up on the menu throughout the spring, summer and fall seasons. "People have enjoyed the new concepts," said Glovinsky, pointing out her Muddy Buddy Flurry. "People like having new choices." As an emergency room nurse, Glovinsky knows people want service as fast as possible – but she won't compromise the food's quality nor her stand's integrity in serving customers simply on speed alone. "That's important to me," Glovinsky said about balancing all aspects of managing a well-run business. "I've been in the emergency environment for the last 14 years. You see things, you do things, you hear things that aren't so fun — so this is my outlet and way to handle all that stuff." Because of the unpredictable weather, right now, The Cherry on Top's hours do vary, but people can receive updates by visiting Facebook and searching for "The Cherry on Top." By Memorial Day, it should operate seven days a week, serving people up until 9-10 p.m., depending on the day. "Just come on out. It's a whole vibe," Glovinsky said. "It's a fun, happy place to be."
