PREP ROUNDUP: Bellevue beats Oak Harbor in 8 innings

OAK HARBOR — Bellevue scored four runs in the eighth inning to defeat Oak Harbor 6-2 in a baseball game that was moved from Bellevue because of rain early Friday. The Redmen, playing their season opener, scored what proved to be the winning run in the top of the eighth when Caden Lindsey and Sam Cooper delivered back-to-back doubles. Cooper then scored on Cooper Winke's double to give Bellevue a 4-2 cushion. Blake Sutherland added a RBI single and Reid Claus was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to account for the final score. Winke started on the mound for Bellevue and threw four scoreless innings, striking out seven. Sutherland worked the final four innings, giving up two runs (one earned). Sutherland had three hits and scored twice to lead Bellevue's offense. Grant Musser and Ike Brown each had two hits and Brown drove in two. Each team scored in the seventh inning to send the game to extra innings. Bellevue will host Upper Sandusky at noon Saturday. Leimeister allowed just one hit in three innings before Price gave up two in two innings. Bryson Wittmer went 2 for 3 with a double, scored three runs and drove in one to lead the Chargers offense. Chaz Smith had two hits and drove in two runs. Weston Hoover doubled and singled. Leimeister scored three runs for Edison (2-0), which plays at Sandusky at 11 a.m. Saturday. Ayars struck out 13 and walked four to help the Wildcats improve to 11-7. The 6-foot-4 left-hander is the No. 1-ranked freshman in the state of Tennessee. He had two of the four hits in the game — a double and triple — and drove in two runs. Kash Koch struck out five and allowed two hits in four innings on the mound.
