Update: Cat dies in Marblehead house fire

Full update 5:20 p.m.MARBLEHEAD — No person was hurt or killed in a Monday afternoon fire on Tanglewood Drive, but a family's cat was killed.Danbury Township's police and fire departments responded to the fire, in the 7200 block, just after 2:30 p.m., according to Danbury Township Fire Chief Keith Kahler.Before first responders arrived, a girl who lives in the home ran to her neighbor, Dale Pocock, and told him something was wrong."I was working in my backyard and (the girl) comes into the yard and says, 'Dale, I can't breathe in my house,'" Pocock said.Pocock and the girl returned to the home, and found it filled with smoke. He helped close windows on the home's exterior and called 911."I'm glad she came over," Pocock said.Officer Brad LaMarca said the family returned home and was able to rescue two dogs from inside. But he said the family's cat did not survive, dying of apparent smoke inhalation.Kahler said the fire was under control about 20 minutes after first responders arrived at the scene.Firefighters believe the fire began in a laundry room, but the exact cause still isn't known, he said.
