Women care for community action commission

Editor's note: 100+ Women Who Care is a group of women who care deeply about the Erie County community, according to its mission statement. The group gathers quarterly — in January, April, July and October — for a one-hour meeting, and each member writes a check for $100 to a charity that the group selects. SANDUSKY — In January, the 100+ Women Who Care organization met to decide which Erie County-based nonprofit would be receiving its latest donation as selected by members. The organization is a philanthropic group of women who meet quarterly and choose a local nonprofit as its recipient of monetary funds. At each meeting, three nonprofits are presented to the members, however, only one is collectively selected. Members chose Community Action Commission of Erie, Huron and Richmond Counties as the recipient of this quarter's donation. The amount collected from members, either in attendance that night or who mailed their checks in after the meeting, totaled $15,300. Each member commits to donate $100. Those representing the commission intend to spend the money on installing air conditioning in the office's Seavers Way facility in Sandusky. Janice Warner, the organization's president and CEO, said she and her staff were appreciative of the funds and look forward to having air conditioning this summer. Want to join? To date, the organization has donated more than $450,000 since its founding in 2016 to Erie County-based charities. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the 100 Women group making an impact in Erie County. The members' support is what makes this organization able to help Erie County charities. Our goal for our upcoming 10 years together is to have an even greater impact in our community through increased membership and involvement. Social time is optional, running from 5:30-6:15 p.m., followed by the actual one-hour meeting, spanning 6:15-7:15 p.m. The next meeting has been designated as Bring a Friend Night. Our members know firsthand the meaningful impact 100 Women has had in our community. We are encouraging our members to bring a friend so that person can experience the power of giving and decide if they are a perfect fit for this organization.
