PREP ROUNDUP: Margaretta scores in 6th to edge Unioto

CHILLICOTHE — The Margaretta baseball team scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Chillicothe Unioto 3-2 on Thursday at VA Memorial Stadium. Memphis McKenzie tripled with one out in the sixth. Pinch-runner Teddy Woolaver scored what proved to be the winning run on a groundout by Mason Kromer. Zack Gray walked to lead off the bottom of the first for Margaretta (2-2) and scored the game's first run. Unioto scored twice in the second to take a 2-1 lead. Margaretta tied the game in the third when Gray led off with a triple and scored on a Hunter Grahl groundout. Gray was 2 for 2 with a walk and scored two runs. Emmett Leibengood added a single and triple. Jaxson Shearn threw a complete game for the Polar Bears, giving up nine hits and walking five. Unioto loaded the bases with two out in the top of the seventh, but Shearn fielded a ground ball and threw to first baseman Hunter Heck for the final out. Jack Welch went 3 for 3 for Unioto (1-2). The Shermans advanced to the Division IV baseball state semifinals last year, losing to Mentor Lake Catholic, which edged Perkins by a run in the championship game. The Truckers dropped to 1-3. Alexis Dellisanti doubled and scored while Scarlet Schneider also singled and drove in a run for Norwalk. HR: (EC) Tomasch TRACK & FIELD Clyde's Crockett wins 3 events CLYDE — Clyde's Dekin Crockett won three events in a dual meet against Columbian. Crockett won the boys 200 meters (22.72), 110 hurdles (16.07) and 300 hurdles (39.75). Clyde's boys tied Columbian 59-59. The Fliers' Reese Rex won two individual events and ran on a winning relay. Rex won the 800 (2:14.18), 1600 (4:55.20) and joined Ethan Skeels, Dane Aldrich and Preston Widman on the winning 4x800 relay (9:04.43). Clyde's Mitchell Newsome won the high jump (5-4). In the girls dual, Clyde's Bree Caudill won the 100 (13.14) and ran on a pair of winning relays. The Fliers' quartet of Caudill, Kyleigh McHugh, Casey Fisher and Gabriella Griffin won the 4x100 in 52.09. Clyde's Griffin, Caudill, Ruth Guzman-Moreno and Laney Renfro won the 4400 in 4:32.53. Fisher won the 300 hurdles in 53.45 and Braylee Laughlin finished first in the pole vault (9-0). Clyde's girls fell 78-46 to Columbian.
