Man dies after being pinned beneath vehicle

BROWNHELM TWP. — A 45-year-old Vermilion man died on Wednesday after being pinned beneath a vehicle at a local business the day before At about 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, Vermilion firefighters arrived at L&M Towing and Repair, on West River Road in Brownhelm Township, for a report of a man trapped under a vehicle. When first responders arrived, employees at the business had already removed the man from beneath the vehicle and were providing first aid. Fire officials said the man was an employee at the business. The vehicle had reportedly been partially elevated on a lift at the time of the incident. Fire personnel requested a medical helicopter, and the man was transported to a Cleveland-area hospital with a severe head injury. He later died from his injuries. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as David Williams, 45, of Vermilion. Officials said Williams was treated at the hospital and pronounced dead on Wednesday. The Lorain County Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation. The cause of the incident, including how the vehicle came off the lift, has not yet been determined. It was not immediately clear whether workplace safety investigators, including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, will review the incident. An obituary published by Riddle Funeral Home states that Williams was preceded in death by his daughter, Paige Williams, on March 6. Paige, 17, was a Vermilion High School and EHOVE Career Center student who died in a car crash in Lorain with Lucille Hopkins.
