PREP ROUNDUP: Margaretta falls 5-4 after rain hits

CHILLICOTHE — Margaretta dropped a 5-4 decision to Lucasville Valley in a non-conference baseball game Wednesday at VA Memorial Stadium. The Polar Bears had a runner on first base with one out in the top of the sixth inning when the game was called due to rain and lightning. Margaretta tied the game at 4-4 in the fifth inning. Jaxson Shearn reached on a one-out single before an error sent pinch-runner Gavin Berg to third base and Zach Gray to second. Berg scored the tying run on Bren Smith's groundout. Valley took the lead in the bottom of the fifth after a leadoff double. Gray had a single and RBI for the Bears. Hunter Grahl and Shearn also drove in runs. Mason Kromer added a hit and pitched all five innings for the Bears, striking out four and giving up only one earned run. Margaretta (1-2) plays Chillicothe Unioto at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
