Library to host America 250 bookmark design contest

PORT CLINTON — From reading programs and creative workshops to gardening events and book clubs, the Ida Rupp Public Library system is offering a variety of activities for children, teens and adults throughout April at its Port Clinton, Marblehead and Erie Islands locations. Among some featured events: Ida Rupp Public Library, 310 Madison St, Port Clinton • America 250 Bookmark Design Contest: From April 1-30 — Youth ages 17 and under are invited to design a bookmark showing What America Means to You in celebration of the nation's 250th anniversary. Winning artists receive a $25 gift certificate. • Teen Dungeons & Dragons: From 4:30-6:30 p.m. on April 6 — Teens in grades 6-12 can join an ongoing tabletop role-playing adventure. No registration required. All materials provided. • Plant Swap: From noon to 2 p.m. on April 25 — Adults are invited to bring plants, seeds or cuttings to exchange while kicking off the spring gardening season. Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library, 710 W Main St., Lakeside-Marblehead • Waking Up the Garden: From 6-7 p.m. today — Learn how to prepare gardens for spring and summer success with Lakeside Chautauqua's director of horticulture. • Yoga at the Library: From 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays in April — Join a weekly all-levels yoga session led by Cheryl Sauvey. Registration is required as space is limited. • Paws for Reading: From 4:30-5:30 p.m. on April 23 — Children can practice reading with therapy dog Sophie during individual 15-minute sessions. Erie Islands Branch Library, 281 Concord Ave., Put-In-Bay • Coffee, Cookies and Conversations: From 10-11 a.m. on April 10 — Adults are invited to relax, enjoy refreshments and share ideas in a casual setting. • Hot Wheels at the Library: From 3:30-4:30 p.m. on April 21 — Children can design and race Hot Wheels tracks with friends. • LEGO Night at the Library: From 3:30-4:15 p.m. on April 28 — Kids can build creative LEGO projects, with the option to display them in the library.
