Oh deer: Fence separates young deer from home

PERKINS TWP. — Although deer populations in Ohio are thriving, one of its youngest members appears to be at risk.Residents living along the fence line at the NASA Plum Brook Station said a baby deer has been separated from its family after it likely jumped over a fence near Sandy Acres Drive in Perkins Township.The fawn supposedly hopped over the enclosure sometime in mid-July and sustained injuries from the jump. Since then, Perkins Township resident Robert Reynolds said he noticed the deer has a limp.Reynolds called several authorities, including Perkins police, to help the animal. None, however, were able to assist the deer in possibly reuniting with its family."If the deer is injured or sick we can dispatch it, but the deer was not injured or sick," Perkins police Officer Jacob Marsinick said.The deer appears to be causing some property damage to fences along Sandy Acres Drive, Reynolds said. Reynolds said the property damage could be a catalyst for police action but hasn't seen any significant help for the animal."Something has to be done about it," Reynolds said.
