Sandusky man arrested after allegedly pointing gun during argument

SANDUSKY — A city resident believed to have pointed a gun at a woman during an argument is in custody without bond this weekend.Jeremiah A. Steel, 21, is being held at the Erie County jail on charges of felonious assault, domestic violence and tampering with evidence, according to jail records. A Sandusky Police Department report indicates that the altercation occurred on Friday, shortly before noon, between Steel and a woman with whom he was at one point romantically involved.That woman, who is pregnant, told police that the two were arguing about circumstances at their Pierce Street residence, according to the report. Then, she told police, Steel pulled a handgun from a lock box in the room and pointed it at her and at her abdomen.She told police that Steel then took the gun into the backyard. Officers found it, in a holster, in the bed of a disabled pickup truck in the backyard, according to the report.Steel initially denied having a gun, according to the report. When asked why the lock box would be open and the gun would be in the backyard, Steel reportedly told police that he'd taken it out earlier in the day to clean and moved it outside during the argument so that neither he nor the woman had access to it.The report indicates that the gun did not appear to have been cleaned recently.Jeremiah Steel.
