PERKINS TWP. — The Perkins tennis team fought through the cold and opened the season with a 3-2 Sandusky Bay Conference crossover win over Huron on Friday. Preston Miller and Aaron Benkirane each won singles matches for the Pirates (1-0) while Hayden Wright and Anders VanNess teamed up for a win at doubles. "We knew this was going to be a close match," Redskins coach Joe Miller said. "Norwalk returns five of seven varsity starters from last year, and I think they'll be competing at the top of the Lake Division with Clyde. We were down one of our best doubles players and it was 29 degrees with the wind chill, but our guys never complained or made excuses. "I'm proud of them for gritting out a win.
