Shooting suspect arrested

SANDUSKY — A Sandusky man is facing felony charges after an early Thursday morning shooting. Levonne Buckley, 19, of the 1200 block of Vine St., is facing two counts of felonious assault and one count of discharging a firearm into a habitation. All three charges are second-degree felonies. Just before 2 a.m. on Thursday, officers were called to the area of the 2200 block of Forest Drive for the report of shots fired. Officers arrived on scene but were not able to find any evidence of a shooting, according to Sandusky police Chief Jared Oliver. They did speak with witnesses who heard the shots. Detectives followed up later that morning and discovered a home in the 1500 block of S. Forest Drive that was struck five times by gunfire. Officers learned that a man and woman were inside the home at the time of the shooting. The woman said one bullet entered the home, struck the front pocket of her hooded sweatshirt and then continued into a wall without striking her, Oliver said. Detectives developed information that led to Buckley as a suspect. He and the female victim knew each other, Oliver said. At about 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, officers observed Buckley as a passenger in a vehicle near the intersection of Wamajo Drive and Susan Lane. They initiated a traffic stop and took Buckley into custody, according to Oliver. Police then obtained and executed a search warrant of Buckley's home on Vine Street and recovered a 9 mm handgun that they believe was used in the shooting. As of late Friday, Buckley remains locked up in Erie County Jail under a $75,000 bond. He has a hearing scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Sandusky Municipal Court, according to jail records.
