Donation, grant allow Huron fire to purchase CPR device

HURON — Thanks to state and local partners, Huron fire commanders could purchase another specialty CPR system. It's made possible through funding from a state grant, through the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation, along with a donation from Great Lakes Event Works. The equipment's cost totaled $22,000, and this grant and donation covered all expenses. In other words, Huron fire didn't contribute a single cent toward this purchase. Now operating two such devices, this additional unit will allow Huron firefighters to equip each frontline ambulance with this CPR system, thus allowing both stations — one in Huron Township, another within city limits — to have this equipment available at all times. Officially known as a Lucas 3, it's a "mechanical CPR device that delivers consistent, high-quality chest compressions during cardiac arrest emergencies," according to a city fire department statement. "This technology helps our firefighters and paramedics provide more effective lifesaving care while allowing responders to focus on other critical treatments and patient transport," the statement read. "This investment will help us continue delivering the highest level of emergency care to the residents and visitors of Huron."
