Norwalk's Lazzara named first-team All-Ohio

COLUMBUS — The 2026 Divisions I, II and III girls basketball All-Ohio teams were announced Tuesday by the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association. The All-Ohio teams are based on nominations from the seven districts of the OPSMA from regular-season accomplishments. One final recognition came Trinity Lazzara's way Tuesday. It was the biggest of them all for the Norwalk senior. After leading Norwalk to its third-ever district championship, Lazzara was voted to the Ohio Prep Sports Media's All-Ohio first team in Division III. Lazzara, who was also Co-Northwest District Player of the Year in Division III with Ashland junior Kennedy Lacey and Toledo Notre Dame senior Kallie Thames, also joined a rare club at Norwalk. She joined Jiselle Thomas (2017) and former teammate Abby Koenig (2025) as the lone first-team all-state selections in program history. Not coincidentally, all three players were starters for Norwalk's three district championship teams as well. In 26 games this season, the 5-foot-7 guard averaged 12.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game for Norwalk. She shot 41 percent from the field and 78 percent from the free-throw line. In two district tournament wins, Lazzara scored 38 points on 15 of 27 shots as the Truckers defeated Ashland and Elida to earn a third trip to the regional round of the OHSAA tournament. She added eight rebounds, five steals, and three assists in the two wins and made the game-tying shot with five seconds left to force overtime in the title game win over Elida. She finished her Norwalk career with 773 points and also helped the program to its lone league title as a junior as a key starter. Teammate Emmie Leber also earned a spot on the All-Ohio team for the second straight year. Leber, a junior, was honorable mention after she averaged 12.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while shooting 45 percent from the field. A Ms. Basketball finalist and a 2,000-point scorer shared the Div. III Player of the Year honors in Lyndhurst Brush junior Tatiana Mason and Chillicothe Unioto senior Milee Smith. A two-time Ms. Basketball finalist, Mason averaged 24.6 points, 11.4 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 3.3 steals per game this season. Mason is committed to Ohio State. Smith took Unioto to the state semifinals for the first time in 31 years behind 42 points in a regional title win. The University of Dayton commit scored 166 points during the tournament (27.7 points per game). For the season, she averaged 25.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 3.6 steals per game. Smith scored 2,167 career points with 806 rebounds, 386 assists, and 345 steals. Unioto won 56 straight league games with four conference titles and three district championships during her career. First-year Zanesville coach Tyler Hardcastle was the Coach of the Year in Division III after leading the Devils from 5-18 to a 14-9 record this season. In Division I, Player of the Year honors went to Ms. Basketball finalist Whitney Stafford, a 5-foot-8 senior guard from Lewis Center Olentangy. A Kent State University signee, Stafford is also a two-time Central District Player of the Year. She averaged 21.3 points, 6.2 rebounds, three assists, and two steals per game this season. She made 45 percent of her shots from the field (34 percent from 3-point range with 60 made) and 83 percent at the free throw line. Olentangy won its third consecutive district title and fell to eventual state champion Kettering Fairmont in a regional championship game. Stafford, now a three-time All-Ohio first team selection, is the school's all-time leading scorer, regardless of gender, with more than 1,700 points. Coach of the Year honors went to longtime Wadsworth coach Andrew Booth. The coach won his 500th game this season and led the Grizzlies back to the state semifinals, where they fell to Cincinnati Princeton. For his career, Booth, who led the program to a state title in 2016, is 516-174 overall in his coaching career, including a 418-116 mark at Wadsworth. In Division II, Ms. Basketball winner Sydney Mobley, one of the top junior recruits in the country, was the Player of the Year. The Sunbury Big Walnut junior is All-Ohio first team for the third straight year. The 6-foot-2 post averaged 20.5 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 2.5 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game for the Eagles. Mobley helped her team reach the state semifinals for the second consecutive season, as Big Walnut finished 23-5 with a loss to Cincinnati Notre Dame. Mobley, a top 20 recruit nationally for the 2027 class by ESPN, also shot 58 percent from the field this season. She is also a Gatorade Player of the Year nominee for Ohio, and is a two-time OHSBCA District 11, OPSMA Central District, and Ohio Capital Conference Player of the Year. Mobley lists 12 finalists for her college choice. They include Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan State, Notre Dame, North Carolina, Ohio State, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Virginia, and Virginia Tech. Cincinnati Seton first-year head coach Scott Smith earned Coach of the Year. Seton was 13-11 in 2024-25, then jumped to 22-4 this season with three single-digit losses to Cincinnati Notre Dame, including in a regional title game. The boys basketball All-Ohio teams will be announced Wednesday and Thursday.
