Harlequins On Edge wants to see you shiver with antici…

SANDUSKY — Jump to the left, then step to the right, with your hands on your hips, bring your knees in tight and time warp to Harlequins Community Theatre for their On Edge presentation of Rocky Horror Show.According to theatre representative and Rocky Horror cast member Cody Noon, the On Edge program began two years ago with the goal of presenting a show, outside of Harlequins normally scheduled production, that were off the beaten path subject matter-wise."It's a bit more edgier than the normal stuff we do," Noon said. "These shows tend to appeal more to an audience that typically don't get into theatre. Not only does it give us another show, it give more chances for people to get interested."It was director Mark Sartor who originally suggested attempting to bring the cult classic to life for this installment of the 'On Edge' series."I loved the show in college. We used to go see the movie, we did the show backs in the bar," Sartor said. "It's familiar to me and it's a fun show."Inspired by 1970s theatrical production turned film by Richard O'Brien, the Rocky Horror Show follows the story of newly engaged Brad and Janet, after the break down on the side of a road and, find shelter from a harrowing storm at the castle home of the strange Dr. Frank N. Furter.The rock n' roll-esque musical gets more weird and wild when the couple discovers Dr. Frank is a transvestite mad-scientist with an insatiable libido who has created a Frankenstein like monster."There are parts that are like the movie, there are parts that are like the play," Sartor said. "We're blending the feeling of them."In addition to the cohesive and family-like cast of 16 preparing for months to bring the memorable characters alive, crew members were hard at work revamping the Harlequins stage.An extra elevated set was built to platform a live band, and the stage was deepened to allow more space for the animated song and dance numbers such as "Damnit Janet," "Sweet Transvestite" and the iconic "Time Warp."On Edge's production will be semi-interactive as well, with chorus members shouting back bits of dialogue at the characters during the show.Audience members can join in the fun too by bringing small, empty squirt guns, newspapers, bells, glow-sticks and even playing cards, although attendees are asked to refrain from bringing toast, rice, hot dogs or toilet paper."If people want to dress up, that's fine," laughed Sartor. "And if you've never seen the show and don't get it yet, don't worry, you will.""The Rocky Horror Show" is rated for a mature audience only, owing to the depicted adult situations, language, sexual and overall content of the show.Tickets are now on sale for $20 and can be purchased online at harlequinstheatre.org., or at the door if available. Show dates and times are 8 p.m., August 4, 5, 11 and 12, and 2 p.m., August 6 and 13."If you're offended, there is a warning on this play," laughed Sartor. "It's mysterious, it's fun.
