PREP ROUNDUP: Perkins opens softball season with 8-3 win

PERKINS TWP. — Maddie Rinkes smacked a home run and Aubrey Ransom had three hits as Perkins rolled to an 8-3 Sandusky Bay Conference crossover softball win over Vermilion on Saturday. Rinkes' two-run home run gave the Pirates a 3-2 lead in the third inning. She also singled in Perkins' season opener. Ransom tallied two singles, a double and a run scored. Allie Brunner doubled, drove in two runs and scored in the win. Maycee Bohn went all seven innings in the circle for Perkins. She allowed three unearned runs on three hits and six walks. She struck out nine. Maddie Pinter recorded two singles and a RBI for the Sailors (0-1) while Abby Gawry singled and drove in a run. Lilly Porter took the loss for Vermilion. HR: (P) Rinkes Monroeville 12, Norwalk 4 MONROEVILLE — The Eagles exploded for seven runs in the second inning and defeated Norwalk in a non-league matchup at Clark Park. Monroeville led 7-0 after two innings and pushed the lead to 10-2 after three innings. Madi Reiber had a home run, single, three runs scored and three RBI from the leadoff spot for the Eagles. Lilly Clark singled and scored three times while Genna Bragg tallied a single and two runs scored. Taylor Scheid picked up the win in the circle, throwing 4 2/3 innings. She allowed four runs (one earned) while striking out two. Alexis Dellisanti doubled and scored for Norwalk (0-1). Saige Viock laced a single and drove in a run for the Truckers. Viock took the loss despite not allowing a hit. She went the first 1 2/3 innings, recording seven walks and eight wild pitches. She gave up seven runs (all earned). HR: (M) Reiber FLAG FOOTBALL Sandusky girls start 3-0 Sandusky's girls flag football team is 3-0 with two shutouts after its first weekend of varsity competition. The Blue Streaks — who haven't allowed a first down in three games — won the first game in program history Friday, shutting out Black River 30-0 at Elyria Catholic High School. Maekhiya Rameau had four touchdown receptions and Brooklyn Long threw three touchdown passes in the win. Brieanua Wright returned an interception for a touchdown. Sunday at Strobel Field, Sandusky defeated Oberlin 32-2 and shut out Elyria Catholic 32-0. Against Oberlin, Vivian Johnson had a rushing touchdown, Rameau caught a touchdown pass from Long, Journey Newell had a pick-6 and Layla Petersen threw a pair of touchdowns to Brooklyn Daniels. Newell and Ma'Liyah Reed each had two interceptions. Against Elyria Catholic, Reed had two rushing touchdowns and Long threw two touchdown passes to Rameau. Aaroniyah Johnson added a pick-6. Sandusky won all three games by the mercy rule, which kicks in if a team is leading by 30 in the second half. "The girls are staying humble," Sandusky coach Mitch Sweet said. "They love the game and are happy just to be playing." The Blue Streaks play two games Friday in Elyria. Sandusky plays Cloverleaf at 6 p.m. and Medina at 7.
