Harbourtown Hall here to host Vermilion events

VERMILION — A downtown Vermilion building has been renovated and recently reopened as Harbourtown Hall, creating a new event space for weddings, parties and community gatherings. The venue, located at 995 State St. (Ohio 60), is operated by Mike Lazusky, a Vermilion native and Marine Corps veteran, who said the project developed after hearing consistent interest from local residents and organizations. "I kept hearing from people that they were looking for a place to hold events downtown," Lazusky said. "That's really what pushed me to move forward with it." Harbourtown Hall is designed to host a range of events, including private celebrations, meetings, live music concerts and fundraisers. Lazusky said the space is set up to be flexible depending on the type of event being held. A downtown space with double uses The building itself serves a dual purpose. Most of the space is dedicated to the event venue, while a smaller portion is used for Lazusky's woodworking business, Cleveland Cutting Board & Furniture Co. In addition to the main hall, the building includes a smaller boardroom-style space that can be used for meetings or as additional space during larger events. Harbourtown Hall joins several existing venues in and around Vermilion that host weddings, parties and community events. A building with a history in Vermilion The building has served several purposes over the years and may be familiar to longtime residents. It previously operated as Commodore's Place and was also used for a seasonal haunted schoolhouse attraction, which was set up during the Halloween season and drew visitors to the area. While the uses have changed over time, Lazusky said the goal of the current renovation is to give the space a new role in the community. Lazusky said the building has undergone updates in recent months to prepare it for public use. "We've put a lot of work into getting the space ready," he said. "The goal was to make it something the community can use for different types of events." The venue is currently booking private events and has begun hosting live music on select weekends.
