Calling on lawmakers to fix Social Security

PERKINS TWP. — A February report from the Congressional Budget Office projects that the balance of the Old-Age and Survivors Insurance Trust Fund will be exhausted in 2032. For the last year and a half, Serving Our Seniors has tried to schedule a public forum with our federal legislators, who represent older Americans living in Erie County, to come to Sandusky and update their constituents about what they are doing to preserve Social Security and Medicare. This request has been met with no reply. In February, U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur, U.S. Sen. Bernie Moreno and U.S. Sen. Jon Husted were made aware of Serving Our Seniors' plans to host a forum in June and requested if they would sit on a panel and discuss the future of Social Security and Medicare On March 13, Serving Our Seniors signed a rental agreement to use the UAW Hall, 3114 Hayes Ave. (Ohio 4), Perkins Township, from 3-4:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 25 for this discussion. On Tuesday, our U.S. legislators' offices were made aware of the date and time of the forum. Our legislators will be on recess in June. It will be up to them to decide how they want to use their time. They might need a little inspiration from you. Serving Our Seniors has a form letter available for the public to use. It can be found at servingourseniors.org/future-of-social-security-medicare. Or Erie County residents, age 60-plus, may call the office and Serving Our Seniors and request a copy of the form letter. Serving Our Seniors asks Erie County residents, age 60-plus, to plan their calendar and attend this forum, titled The Future of Social Security & Medicare: To Be Depleted in 6 Years. If our federal legislators choose not to participate, the public has its answer about the future of Social Security and Medicare and what is being done to preserve it.
