Crash on turnpike kills 1

HARRIS TWP. — A Sunday morning crash involving three commercial vehicles killed one motorist in Ottawa County. The collision occurred at about 10:20 a.m. on the Ohio Turnpike, also known as Interstate 80/90, in Harris Township near milepost 78, according to a release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol. According to the patrol, this was the sequence of events: • Two commercial vehicles were stopped due to another unrelated crash in the eastbound turnpike lanes. • A third commercial vehicle failed to stop and struck one of the vehicles. That vehicle it struck, in turn, hit the other stopped truck. • The driver of the vehicle that failed to stop was identified as 29-year-old Ibodulloev Mukhammadali, of Brooklyn, New York. Mukhammadali was pronounced dead at the scene. • A driver of one of the other two vehicles, a 65-year-old Fort Lauderdale, Florida, man, suffered minor injuries. The driver of the third vehicle was uninjured. • The crash restricted the turnpike to a single lane in that area for an "extended period of time" as crews cleared the scene. The patrol noted that the crash remains under investigation.
