Man arrested after Fremont disturbance

FREMONT — Fremont police announced a felony sex crime arrest after a recent disturbance at a Cedar Street restaurant. Ronald E. Callahan, 68, of Tiffin, is facing one count of attempted importuning, a first-degree misdemeanor. The arrest comes after a Wednesday disturbance at a restaurant in the 1700 block of Cedar Street, according to a Fremont police media release. The disturbance involved a group called Dads Against Predators. They conduct sting operations, "in ways that are outside of the parameters that lawful investigations take place," the release states. Dads Against Predators reportedly agreed to provide video and messaging evidence of the alleged violation to police, according to the release. Another incident involving Dads Against Predators, with similar circumstances, was reported at a gas station in the 3400 block of Ohio 53 in the Sandusky County Sheriff's Office jurisdiction. Fremont Mayor Danny Sanchez addressed the Fremont incident in a message on social media on Thursday. He said he was aware of videos circulating online about the incident. While he cannot file charges himself, he said he observed several possible violations. Sanchez is a former police officer. "The videos circulating are extremely disturbing," Sanchez said. "As someone who also has grandchildren living in this community, I take these matters very seriously." As of late Thursday, Callahan's case has not been uploaded to the Fremont Municipal Court's website. It is unknown when his next court date is.
