Midtown Supper Club was amazing

This week I attended the amazing Midtown Supper Club at Sandusky Rec @ Mills. In its 8th season, this event highlights what transpires when our city's young people are given the opportunity to engage with adults and learn lifelong skills. The children apply and are "interviewed" to become chefs-in-training, and then, local chefs, Byron McMorris and Bruce Thompson, meet with them twice a week over an 7-week period. Their learning culminates in preparing and serving the community a delicious supper. This year's theme was the "Wild Wild West" and the packed house was treated to Stagecoach Barbecue Chicken, Knee-Slappin' Pulled Pork, Buckaroo Baked Potatoes and a host of other delicious dishes. In addition, there was entertainment provided by the children who attend "OuttaSchool @ the Rec" and a group from Serving Our Seniors. Again, young and older had the opportunity to engage in a fun, child-centered way. All of the above would not be possible without the leadership, dedication, and deep love for children that Youth Program Supervisor Tondra Frisby displays each and every day. I volunteer at The Rec helping with homework, so I see first-hand how she stays true to her mission to provide children with authentic opportunities to utilize manners, develop honesty and kindness, all the while being kids. Midtown Supper Club is an extension of Tondra's mission. Thank you Tondra, your staff, the adult chefs, and chefs-in-training, their parents, plus the community for embracing a unique opportunity for Sandusky's children.
