An amazing agriculture event

GIBSONBURG — Last week, during the Sandusky County Chamber of Commerce's annual Ag Breakfast & Showcase at Ole Zim's Wagon Shed in Gibsonburg, the event brought together farmers, agribusiness leaders, students and community partners to "celebrate the impact agriculture has on our region," according to an event statement. Highlights from the morning included: • A panel discussion featuring leaders from several sectors of agriculture • Presentation of the Farmer of the Year Award, going to Jon and Scott Haar of Jon & Scot Haar Farms • Presentation of the Emerging Ag Professional, going to Alexis Payne of AP Cattle Co. • An announcement of the chamber's participation in America 250-Ohio programming this year • Nearly 20 showcase vendors representing agricultural businesses connecting with local FFA students about careers in agriculture • Fremont FFA student Heidi Jahns recited a speech she wrote on advertising dairy products. The event was a great way to connect with like-minded individuals while exposing the next generation of professionals to career options, according to Clyde FFA adviser Robert Selvey. "The generosity of the ag community was also on full display," according to a chamber statement. "With support from attendees, including a sizeable donation from Rich Farmer, we raised $2,500 for the Sandusky County Food Pantry, which will be matched by The Andersons." Chamber officials also thanked "everyone who joined us for a great morning celebrating Sandusky County agriculture, and thank you to Ole Zim's Wagon Shed for the wonderful breakfast."
