Mayor addresses exposed predator videos

FREMONT — On Thursday, Fremont Mayor Danny Sanchez addressed recent videos made by those associated with Dads Against Predators, a vigilante group luring alleged child predators for meetups and exposing them live on video. The group is not a law enforcement agency. Here's the post Sanchez made on his public Facebook page: I am fully aware of the events that have taken place in our community over the past 24 to 48 hours involving (Dads Against Predators), exposing individuals who allegedly intended to engage in sexual relationships with minors or seek nudity material involving minors. As mayor of Fremont, it is my responsibility to work with local law enforcement, the Sandusky County Sheriff's Office, the city of Fremont prosecutor and the Sandusky County prosecutor to obtain answers regarding what criminal charges may be filed or to understand why criminal charges may not be possible in certain cases. I believe that there are several potential applicable charges and have shared that with prosecutors. I am not able to file charges myself, however. That said, I have been advised that these matters are currently under criminal investigation, and the appropriate elected authorities will provide additional information to the public when they determine the time is appropriate to do so. The videos circulating are extremely disturbing. As someone who also has grandchildren living in this community, I take these matters very seriously. I want to assure the public that I will do everything within my power to work with law enforcement and the appropriate authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone in the city of Fremont.
