Johnson excited to join

SANDUSKY — Sandusky Schools' board of education approved the district's next leader at Tuesday's meeting. Luther Johnson will fulfill his role as superintendent starting Aug. 1. Receiving a three-year contract, he'll earn $165,000 per year. This is a $22,000 increase compared to former superintendent Dan Rambler's three-year contract signed in 2022 and a $4,800 increase compared to interim superintendent Dennis Muratori's one-year $160,200 salary. He was chosen by the board out of a list of four finalists, two of whom had previous ties to the district. Johnson is coming to the district from his current position as area superintendent of Columbus Schools. Supporters of Johnson — including his wife, brothers, sisters, son, granddaughter and church members — packed the meeting's audience. He addressed the crowd, thanking them for attending and said he was excited to join the district. "This is an exciting opportunity," Johnson said. "I'm looking forward to serving the students of Sandusky and becoming a member of this community." He also addressed the board, thanking them for their trust in him. "Thank you again to the board for your support and for your confidence," Johnson said. "I look forward to having a great time." Rambler submitted his letter of resignation last February, announcing he would "pursue another opportunity." The district's chief of staff and transformation officer, Muratori, became interim superintendent after Rambler's contract ended on July 31. Muratori will retire when Johnson's contract starts.
