Seamstress measures up in grand fashion

SANDUSKY — She's not quite cut from the same cloth as her former colleague.But Marvin Martin is confident Stephanie Brown Mayfield can sew, fasten and repair with the best of them.Martin, a 30-year Sandusky tailor, retired in April and recently turned over his longtime business, Martin's Tailoring & Alterations, to Brown Mayfield.Now known as Stephanie's Fine Alterations, her business is on Cleveland Road beside Thirsty Pony.It is one of the few remaining alteration shops in the city.Brown Mayfield works with all sorts of clothing, including women's, men's and customs. But she's particularly known for her craftsmanship in formal wear for proms and weddings."I can do it all," the seamstress said. "My main thing is bridals. That's my passion."She has been sewing for 30 years and handles her business with great care. "People know me," Stephanie remarked while fiddling with a beautiful bridal gown, "I do a good job."
