Dinner benefit supports late woman

SHEFFIELD VILLAGE — A local agency organized a benefit dinner in tribute to an area woman who died in a car crash on Friday. The event takes place from noon to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Local 2000, 3151 Abbe Road, in Sheffield Village in honor of the late Lucille Hopkins, 18. Several meal options are available, and people can also get food delivered by calling 440-949-0102. Additionally, attendees can take part in raffles. It's being organized by Local Union 2192 of Lorain County Job and Family Services. Hopkins' father, Tyler Brickman, serves on the union's bargaining committee. "Local 2192 members are raising money for Tyler so he and his family can lay his beautiful daughter to rest," according to an event statement. Every dollar raised throughout Wednesday will be donated to Hopkins' family. Hopkins, an alumna of EHOVE Career Center, graduating in 2025, and Paige Williams, 17 — a cosmetology student at EHOVE Career Center and a senior at Vermilion High School — died when the vehicle they were traveling in went into the water at a marina near the intersection of West Erie Avenue and Oak Point Road in Lorain at about 4:15 a.m. Another person in the vehicle found at the scene, a man who was injured, told officers he was a backseat passenger in a car that hit the pole and that the car then went into Beaver Creek Marina. The man, who has not been identified, said he was able to exit through a window. EHOVE officials said crisis counselors will be available to speak to any students or staff members. As of this posting, Hopkins' obituary has not been publicized.
