Ken Gerhardstein

BELLEVUE—Ken Gerhardstein, 65, of Bellevue, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2016, in Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky.He was born July 21, 1950, in Bellevue, the son of Donald and Mary Ann (Bores) Gerhardstein.Ken worked for the postal service for 35 years, retiring in 2008 as Postmaster of the Castalia Post Office. He was employed by Green Hills Golf Course, and was a full time school bus driver with the Bellevue City Schools which he truly enjoyed. He was an avid golfer, participating in the Bellevue Elk's Golf and bowling leagues. He was a member of the Sandusky Elks Lodge 285, and participated in the Ball and Chain Couples Bowling League and Excuses Wednesday Morning Bowling League. Ken was an all around Bellevue sports fan but his "team" had always been The Notre Dame Fighting Irish.Ken enjoyed spending time with his wife and many close friends. During the summer months Ken enjoyed taking rides in their Mustang. Ken loved taking his yearly golf trips with his long time golfing buddies. Most of all Ken cherished family dinners, holidays, and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.He is survived by his wife, Ginger (Andrews), whom he married April 5, 1975, at Immaculate Conception Church; two daughters, Leah (Dan) Cashbaugh of Sandusky, and Ashley (Eric) Adams of Willard; five grandchildren, Braxton Cashbaugh, Paige Adams, Sydney Adams, Luca Cashbaugh, and Mila Cashbaugh; a brother, Greg (Jane) Gerhardstein of Friday Harbor, Wash.; two sisters, Kathy (Bill) Heal of Bellevue, and Jan Newkirk of Dutch Harbor, Alaska; two sisters-in-law, Connie Foster of Marblehead, and Roxanne (Jiggs) Bar of Bellevue; as well as several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his grandson, Cane Cashbaugh; brother-in-law, Mike Newkirk; and father- and mother-in-law, Paul and Marian Andrews.Friends will be received 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 14, at Foos & Foos Funeral Service. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 15, at the funeral home.
