Kroger Marketplace coming to Fremont

FREMONT — Kroger Marketplace is coming to Fremont.Kroger finalized the purchase of two parcels near the intersection of Oak Harbor Road and Cedar Street on Friday where the Travelodge Hotel and the office of the Fremont News Messenger are located."This is an exciting step. We look forward to providing Fremont customers the best shopping experience," said Jennifer Jarrell, Kroger spokesman.Demolition of the hotel and the newspaper will begin once the weather breaks in the spring, allowing both businesses time to find a property to relocate to.There is no timetable for construction of the new grocery store.Kroger has already been receiving messages of support, including Joe Grieshaber, president Columbus division Kroger, who received an email from a Fremont resident expressing excitement about the new Marketplace, Jarrell said.The proposed store will be 124,000 square feet, similar to Sandusky's new Marketplace but it is too soon to tell what offerings and departments the Fremont store will have.It is also too soon to tell what will happen to the Kroger stores on S.
