Reed receives high honor

FREMONT — Fremont police Detective Ryan Reed earned the 2025 City of Fremont Police Officer of the Year Award. An announcement occurred on Thursday during a public meeting with city council. "This award recognizes an officer whose performance and character represent the highest standards of the Fremont Police Department over the course of the year," Fremont police Chief Derek Wensinger said. "Excellence of this level is not the result of chance but of consistent dedication, professionalism and commitment to duty," Wensinger added. "The officer selected for this honor demonstrates the skill, motivation and integrity that all members of the department strive to achieve." Reed's nomination came from a colleague, Sgt. Matthew Ranazzi, who commended Reed for his: • Outstanding work on complex case investigations • Unwavering commitment to Fremont police's law enforcement mission Reed, who joined Fremont police in 2017 after graduating from Owens Community College, serves in the detective division. In addition to his investigative responsibilities, Reed is a department firearms instructor and serves as a team leader for the Sandusky County Special Response Team.
