CLYDE • McPherson Middle School announced February students of the month: — Brielle Weiker and Nolan Castelan were the sixth-grade students of the month — Ellee Miller and Trey Wetzel were the seventh-grade students of the month — Gretta Framstad and Jayce Matthews were the eighth-grade students of the month The middle school also recognized two exploratory students and two club members for January: — Zoey Schneider and Gage Myers were awarded as exploratory students of the month — Hailey DeYoung from science club and Aliyas Gladden from baking club were club members of the month The middle school honors athletes each week were: — Ava Scruggs for basketball, Knox Dearth for basketball, Luke Frische for wrestling, Regan Schwartz for wrestling and Karson Lee for wrestling • Clyde High School's Teen Leadership Corps collected more than 7,000 pounds of clothes during a recent drive. SANDUSKY • Sandusky High School's academic challenge team competed and won its match in the Channel 5 News Nordson Academic Challenge last month. Sandusky scored 420 points. The students competed against other Ohio schools. • Sandusky Middle School displayed African-American inventors on classroom doors. In partnership with the school's Black history committee, students researched and displayed the honorees throughout the halls. PORT CLINTON • Port Clinton Middle School students participated in a "Shark Tank" Panel. Last week, 32 students presented business plans they created at an event similar to Shark Tank where they showcased their business proposals to a panel of judges. They spent weeks creating projects through the Young Entrepreneurs Club. Penny Sandvick and Kenleigh Mazur were the grand champions of the event with their Positively Glowing business, Adrienne Wheeler was the runner-up with The Perfect Paws Bully Rescue, and there was a tie between Kennedi Wainwright's Hometown Hotspots and Paws and Poses with Kendyl Bollinger and Morgan Biers. Honorable mentions included Jaclyn Gressman and Hailey Goff with Paws and Relax; Dominic Esquival and Trace Warnicke with Snack Shack and SUDS; June Messa and Ava Warnicke with Blend and Bite; Zoe Schaaf and Julia Osborne with Pawsitively Picture Moments; and Jaxon Snyder and Raymond Jones with Measure by Measure. Other participating students included Berkeley Mizener, Nolan Verkin, Asa Gatliff, Miles Jackson, Gabe Fick, Chloe Hatt, Mason Manore, Gianna Bolte, Makenna Hatfield, Ben Schramm, Addie Hildreth, Lucas Hefty, Cambri Chapman, Paizley Manns, Abbi Edmonds and Kynleigh Scott. ST. PAUL • St. Paul's horticulture class visited The Chef's Garden in Huron. The students toured the facility and learned about operating the garden and what it offers to local and worldwide customers. HURON SPORTS ACADEMY • Huron Sports Academy hosted a Crazy Sock Day. SANDUSKY CENTRAL CATHOLIC SCHOOL • St. Mary Central Catholic High School students participated in the RISE Pitch Challenge with other Erie and Huron County students. Two out of the three participating teams from St. Mary qualified for the final competition next week. The qualifying students are: Eian Etchill & Mason McCune, and Alexis Langenberg & Rebecca Gallagher. NORWALK • Maplehurst Elementary School hosted several guest readers. The school thanked its guests: Norwalk police Chief Dahlgren, Officer Mike Conney, state Trooper Alvarado, school board member Eric Gonzales, middle school student Ariel Roche, reporter Matt Roche and central office employee Kim McConegly.
