3-pointers turn into donation

OAK HARBOR — Those representing Habitat for Humanity of Ottawa County recently congratulated Oak Harbor High School's girls basketball team on their season, which included the team winning the Northern Buckeye Conference for the 2025-26 season. "We are especially grateful that the team chose Habitat for Humanity of Ottawa County as their charity for Croghan Colonial Bank's 3-point program," according to a habitat statement. Through this program, Croghan Bank donated $10 for every 3-pointer made, up to $500 — and the Rockets surpassed that goal. "Cheyenne Harneck from Croghan bank, who coordinates the 3-point program, presented a $500 check to Habitat for Humanity of Ottawa County's Valerie Winterfield and Debi Heiks," the statement read. "To show our appreciation, Habitat provided each player with a Habitat T-shirt as a thank-you for choosing us." Ottawa County represents just one chapter of Habitat for Humanity, a global nonprofit housing organization working in local communities across all 50 states and in more than 70 countries. Ottawa County's chapter helps provide and repair homes for those in need. "Way to go, ladies: We are proud of your undefeated season and even more proud of your generosity and commitment to supporting workforce housing and home repairs in our community," the statement read. "Your leadership both on and off the court makes a lasting impact."
